A Southern Indiana family wanted to modernize their 20-plus-year-old home, and Lisa Lynn of Lisa Lynn Designs knew she was up for the enormous job. The designer worked with the New Albany homeowners and contractor to gut the entire main floor, creating a more crisp and open floor plan for the 4-bedroom, 4-1-2 bath family home.
The concept: clean, elegant and modern. Lisa “ran” with the owner’s ideas to create a sleek, modern kitchen by removing walls and taking over some laundry space for added square footage. The home now also boasts a dashing dining room with crystal wallpaper on the ceiling, glistening through a grand gold chandelier, walk-in closet fit for a queen, and a marvelous master bath. “They had a lot of faith in us,” Lisa says about flipping the old house plan on its head. “They were quite excited about the prospective changes.” Switching to all new furniture, countertops, custom window treatments, cabinetry, rugs, accessories and flooring can seem daunting to some clients. That’s why our clients hire us,” Lisa smiles.
First, the kitchen, which originally had dark cabinetry and a small island was revamped with new detailed glass cabinets and beautiful Cambria quartz countertops from Lisa Lynn Designs, the premiere dealer in Louisville. The wall between the kitchen and great room was knocked down to create a large and more inviting space.
Lisa kept some of the owners’ cherished art pieces and the grand arched window in the living room but added new furniture throughout and pops of aqua, teal and blush to “lighten” the space up. The owners wanted a modern, crisp and streamlined space, while preserving the comfortable elegance of their other living areas and Lisa granted their wishes. Soft gold fixtures, new recessed lighting and crystal chandeliers modernized the home. Solid-engineered hardwood was placed throughout the home with the stairway stained to match the flooring.
Using the powder room will make any guest feel lavish, as natural stone was placed behind a high-end vanity that is more like a “work of art,” according to Lisa.
The master bedroom is rich and relaxing from top to bottom with soft gold details and a lush statement rug. Moving into the master bath, suite doors were offset in color to coordinate with the cabinetry. Their shower was considerably expanded and a free-standing porcelain tub was placed, showcasing gold sconces lining the walls with three mirrors instead of the typical two. Highly durable, sparkling quartz countertops were installed to polish things off. The walk-in closet is truly a wonder of its own with a crystal chandelier and a generous amount of space for all of the homeowners’ belongings. “The homeowners were struggling with closet space,” Lisa says.
The whole project took around five or six months from concept to completion, according to Lisa. Next on the agenda for the homeowners and Lisa Lynn designs is a newly-designed spacious basement. “They were thrilled with the project, so they hired us back for the basement,” she beams.
