OUTFIT OF THE WEEK: OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD

This week we are gearing up for Lexington's annual Picnic With The Pops event. The theme this year just happens to be one of our favorite films of all time, 'The Wizard of Oz'. While the focus is usually on decorating your table to perfection, we saw it as a fun excuse to create an outfit for the evening. If you want to show up looking like a modern day Dorothy, then you will want to take notes with this one.  Since Judy Garland's look in the film is all about blue gingham, we naturally had to start things off with a dress fit for a silver screen queen. This Lindy Bop gingham halter swing dress is a fun way to channel your inner Dorothy. The padded bodice has double layers and cute button detail, whilst the long halter neck straps and flared skirt will exaggerate your silhouette. This dress isn't quite as demure as Dorothy's, but it is just as memorable. While there were no handbags in Oz (can you imagine?!), Miss Gale was never without her wicker basket or trusty pup, Toto in tow. To recreate this, we chose a rustic Crate & Barrel traditional picnic basket and filled it with an adorable Melissa & Doug plush terrier. Since the evening is all about picnic food, a cute hand towel is a must. This 'No Place Like Home' cloth by Sonoma was an obvious choice. As for makeup, Dorothy was a young girl, so she was by no means 'done up'. She did however have thick long lashes and the rosiest of cheeks. The Tom Ford cream cheek color instantly gives any complexion a healthy, luminous glow that even Glinda would envy.  Last, but certainly not least is the most important piece to any 'Oz' look. Nothing says "we're not in Kansas anymore" quite like a pair of shimmering ruby slippers. These glitter embellished peep toe pumps by Jimmy Choo bring the ultimate in fantasy footwear to our magical look.  So click your heels three times because we are 'Off To See The Wizard' in style.
