BE A SUPERHERO

We celebrate Father’s Day in the month of June. Whether you are a father to children of your own, a father to a four-legged animal at home, or a positive male role model to a classroom of children at school, we celebrate you! The day-to-day hustle and bustle of life can be exhilarating, yet exhausting. There are two different types of stress we encounter as busy adults. It is important to recognize the positive and negative effects stress can have on the body.

Eustress is good stress. This stress stems from excitement. We feel this “good stress” when we are about to receive a promotion, ride a roller coaster, or go on a first date.

Distress is negative stress. Feelings of Jitteriness and exhaustion can be a result of distress. This stress is tied to mood, poor communication, and confusion. By learning to rest your mind and body, you can continue to be a superhero and a great leader to the lives of others.

CLEAR YOUR MIND WITH 7 WAYS TO REST

PHYSICAL REST

This can be passive or active. Passive includes sleeping and napping. Active includes activities such as yoga, stretching, and massage therapy.

MENTAL REST

Meditation and deep breathing.

SENSORY REST

Turn off your televisions and phones.

CREATIVE REST

Scrapbooking and writing your thoughts in a journal.

EMOTIONAL REST

Freely express yourself to people without feeling the need to please. Be authentic.

SOCIAL REST

Surround yourself with positive people that do not exhaust you.

SPIRITUAL REST

Prayer and meditation. Connect beyond the physical and mental and feel a deep sense of belonging, love, and acceptance.

DODGE THE DAD BOD

Do not let a busy schedule stop you from getting the physical and mental release that your body needs.

Get outside and walk around your neighborhood with your kids or family members 30 minutes everyday.

Add in one calisthenic exercise daily to your cardio routine.

  • 25 push-ups
  • 1-minute wall sit
  • 1-minute plank

Also incorporate weights into your weekly routine. Meet with one of our trainers at Baptist East Milestone Wellness Center to set up a program that best suits your specific needs or make an appointment at our Oasis Spa to relax and unwind.

By practicing these mental and physical release techniques, you will find that inner strength to tackle all obstacles and feel like a superhero to your loved ones that surround you.
