With spring and Derby right around the corner, we can’t help but have this feeling of hope and reassurance that everything will one day go back to normal. Continuing to stay safe is a must and Louisville must carry on traditions that have lasted and will continue to last our lifetime. Many of us have a new outlook on our Derby attire and our appearance- with safety and health being of utmost importance this year in particular. Fitness routines have changed and many have developed new habits, hopefully for the better. Taking our health for granted is definitely not one of them.

My client, Kirk Menefee, diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, is an inspiration for all. Over 200,000 Americans live with this each year. “What an incredible journey I have been on since being diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in April of 2016 to having a double lung transplant on 9/11/2019. I had been a marathoner, long-distance swimmer, and cardiovascular workout enthusiast. In less than a year I went from being a man that could climb mountains to being an invalid that could barely make it to the bathroom. My life-saving miracle transplant has let me regain my life back and do the things I thought I would never be able to do again. I am now back in the pool swimming two miles at a time, have returned to the golf course, and can once again pick up my grandchildren and give them a hug. I have entered The Transplant Games of America and will be competing in swimming and golf next year. If you don’t believe in miracles then all you have to do is look at me and it will change your way of thinking and you will forever be a believer!”

His hard work, dedication, and amazing spirit has kept him here with us today. There is not one day that goes by that he takes for granted.
